Choosing to have surgery in Paris while living abroad is an important decision that requires precise organisation and a clearly identified contact. At Clinique Médicis, Dr Ralph Abbou and Dr Rachel Pessis, plastic surgeons registered with the Paris Medical Council, have built, within their clinic for plastic surgery in Paris, a dedicated pathway for international patients: a video consultation to confirm the indication, a detailed quote before any commitment, a travel schedule that respects the French 15-day cooling-off period (article L.6322-2 of the French Public Health Code), and remote follow-up once you are back home. Dr Abbou consults in English, Arabic and French, so patients from Saudi Arabia, the Gulf, Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon and North Africa speak directly with their surgeon, without an interpreter, and English-speaking patients from the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom as well. Procedures take place in facilities licensed by the Regional Health Agency, in Paris and Neuilly-sur-Seine.
France regulates cosmetic surgery with a precise law: a mandatory in-person consultation, a detailed written quote, a 15-day cooling-off period between the quote and the operation (article L.6322-2 of the Public Health Code), facilities licensed and inspected by the Regional Health Agency, and qualified surgeons registered with the Medical Council. These rules protect the patient, and they apply in exactly the same way to a patient from abroad.

The video consultation is the first step of every international pathway. It takes place on a secure platform, at a time that suits your time zone, in English, Arabic or French. Before the appointment you send photographs taken according to our instructions (front, profiles, neutral lighting) and your medical questionnaire.
During the consultation the surgeon confirms the indication, proposes one or more techniques, describes the recovery and the length of stay required. You then receive a written summary and the quote. Important: the video consultation does not replace the in-person consultation, which remains mandatory in France before any cosmetic surgery. It does, however, start the legal cooling-off period and ensures you do not travel to Paris for nothing.
Every month, Dr Ralph Abbou is present in Dubai, where he consults at the partner clinic FAYY Health (One Central, Dubai World Trade Centre). Patients from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman can meet him in person, in Arabic or English, before scheduling a procedure in Paris. As required by French law, you receive a detailed written quote before any decision. It separates four items: the surgeon’s fees, the anaesthetist’s fees, the facility costs (operating theatre, hospital stay) and the medical devices (implants, compression garments). Remote follow-up consultations are included. Travel, accommodation and concierge services are not.
The quote is the same for a French patient and for a patient from abroad. Cosmetic surgery is not covered by health insurance; payment terms (international bank transfer, deposit) are specified with the quote. See the indicative prices of our procedures.

The video consultation confirms the indication, produces the quote and starts the cooling-off period; the in-person consultation takes place when you arrive in Paris.
Yes. Article L.6322-2 of the French Public Health Code requires a cooling-off period of at least 15 days between the quote and the operation. We organise your journey so that this period is respected: the quote is issued after the video consultation, well before your arrival.
Usually between 7 and 14 days depending on the procedure. This includes the in-person consultation, the anaesthesia consultation, the operation and the first check-ups before your flight home. For a rhinoplasty, plan about 8 to 10 days; for body contouring, 10 to 14 days. The exact duration is stated in your treatment plan.
The protocol is written before the operation: video check-ups at day 7, day 30 and month 3, then between month 6 and 12, based on photographs sent the day before. A direct WhatsApp line to the team stays open for any question. With your consent, we send the operative report to your family doctor.
You contact the direct line immediately. The surgeon assesses the situation by video and, if local care is needed, coordinates with your doctor or a colleague in your country. Serious complications are rare; the most frequent ones (small haematoma, delayed healing) are treated locally with our instructions.
The quote includes the surgeon’s and anaesthetist’s fees, the facility costs and the medical devices. Travel, accommodation, transfers and concierge services are at your expense; our team helps you budget them. Cosmetic surgery is not covered by health insurance.
No. The quote for plastic surgery in Paris is identical for a French patient and for a patient from abroad. It is issued after the video consultation, according to the procedure, its complexity and the length of the hospital stay. Payment terms, including international bank transfer, are specified with the quote.
It depends on your nationality. A short-stay visa or a medical visa may be required; citizens of the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, the Gulf countries and many others do not need one for a short stay. We are not a travel agency: please check with the French consulate in your country. On request, we provide a medical appointment letter to include in your application.
No. American and Canadian citizens can stay in France for up to 90 days without a visa, which covers the consultation, the surgery and the first follow-up visits. A passport valid for at least three months after your planned return is sufficient. Video consultations are scheduled to suit North American time zones.
Depending on the extent of the surgery, we recommend being accompanied by a relative for the first 48 hours. If this is not possible, a nurse at your hotel can be arranged. For minor procedures, travelling alone is perfectly possible.
On request, a private driver meets you at Paris-Charles de Gaulle or Orly and takes you to your accommodation or to the clinic. The same service covers your journeys between the hotel, the clinic and the practice during your stay. It is invoiced by the provider, separately from the medical quote.
Yes. After a review of your file and photographs, then a video consultation with the surgeon, you receive a detailed written quote. It is a binding document that specifies each cost item. It starts the 15-day legal cooling-off period, so you can plan your stay with peace of mind.
