Choosing to have surgery in Paris while living abroad is an important decision that requires precise organisation and a clearly identified contact. At Clinique Médicis, Dr Ralph Abbou and Dr Rachel Pessis, plastic surgeons registered with the Paris Medical Council, have built, within their clinic for plastic surgery in Paris, a dedicated pathway for international patients: a video consultation to confirm the indication, a detailed quote before any commitment, a travel schedule that respects the French 15-day cooling-off period (article L.6322-2 of the French Public Health Code), and remote follow-up once you are back home. Dr Abbou consults in English, Arabic and French, so patients from Saudi Arabia, the Gulf, Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon and North Africa speak directly with their surgeon, without an interpreter, and English-speaking patients from the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom as well. Procedures take place in facilities licensed by the Regional Health Agency, in Paris and Neuilly-sur-Seine.

As an international patient, why choose Paris for your plastic surgery?

France regulates cosmetic surgery with a precise law: a mandatory in-person consultation, a detailed written quote, a 15-day cooling-off period between the quote and the operation (article L.6322-2 of the Public Health Code), facilities licensed and inspected by the Regional Health Agency, and qualified surgeons registered with the Medical Council. These rules protect the patient, and they apply in exactly the same way to a patient from abroad.

  • Verifiable qualifications: Dr Abbou and Dr Pessis hold the French specialist diploma in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery and are members of the SOFCPRE. Their RPPS number can be checked on the official French register of health professionals.
  • Licensed facilities: hospital operating theatres and anaesthetists, protocols in line with the recommendations of the French National Authority for Health (HAS).
  • Fast-recovery techniques: ultrasonic rhinoplasty, fat transfer, minimally invasive surgery, also chosen to make your journey home easier.
  • A written treatment plan: every step and every cost is explained before you travel, never after.

Two plastic surgeons in Paris, including an English- and Arabic-speaking surgeon

Dr Ralph Abbou (RPPS 10100683878) is a plastic surgeon, former Assistant at the Paris University Hospitals, specialised in ultrasonic rhinoplasty, facial surgery, body contouring and male intimate surgery. He consults and operates in English, Arabic and French. For a patient from the Gulf, the United Kingdom or Lebanon, this means explaining your wishes and understanding the medical explanations directly, with no intermediary.

Dr Rachel Pessis (RPPS 10100402998) is a plastic surgeon specialised in breast surgery, body contouring and female intimate surgery. She consults in English and French. Two surgeons in the same clinic also means faster availability to organise your stay.

Care is provided in French, English, Arabic, and Russian with an interpreter (medical interpreter); other languages on request. Biography of Dr Abbou and biography of Dr Pessis.

International patients: your plastic surgery journey in Paris in 5 steps

  1. First contact and file review. You write to us by WhatsApp or e-mail and send your photographs, medical history and any examinations through a secure messaging service. The surgeon reviews your file before any exchange.
  2. Video consultation with the surgeon. Dr Abbou or Dr Pessis analyses your request, confirms the indication, explains the possible techniques, the expected results and the risks. This consultation lasts 20 to 30 minutes.
  3. Detailed quote and schedule. You receive a written quote that separates the surgeon’s fees, the anaesthetist’s fees, the facility costs and the medical devices (implants, compression garments). We propose travel dates that respect the 15-day legal cooling-off period.
  4. In-person consultation in Paris, then surgery. French law requires a physical consultation with the surgeon before any cosmetic surgery, as well as an anaesthesia consultation. Both take place when you arrive. The procedure is performed as day surgery or with one night in the clinic, depending on the operation.
  5. Check-ups in Paris, then remote follow-up. One or two check-ups take place before your flight home. Follow-up then continues by video consultation at day 7, day 30 and month 3, with a direct line for any question.

The remote video consultation: how does it work?

The video consultation is the first step of every international pathway. It takes place on a secure platform, at a time that suits your time zone, in English, Arabic or French. Before the appointment you send photographs taken according to our instructions (front, profiles, neutral lighting) and your medical questionnaire.

During the consultation the surgeon confirms the indication, proposes one or more techniques, describes the recovery and the length of stay required. You then receive a written summary and the quote. Important: the video consultation does not replace the in-person consultation, which remains mandatory in France before any cosmetic surgery. It does, however, start the legal cooling-off period and ensures you do not travel to Paris for nothing.

Meet Dr Abbou without coming to Paris: monthly consultations in Dubai

Every month, Dr Ralph Abbou is present in Dubai, where he consults at the partner clinic FAYY Health (One Central, Dubai World Trade Centre). Patients from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman can meet him in person, in Arabic or English, before scheduling a procedure in Paris. Some non-surgical treatments are performed on site; surgical procedures take place in Paris.

The dates of the next Dubai consultations are shared on WhatsApp. Learn more about Dr Abbou’s consultations in Dubai.

Which procedures do international patients most often come to Paris for?

Patients from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and the Gulf most often travel to Paris for procedures that are rarely offered at home, or for which Dr Abbou and Dr Pessis have a recognised expertise:

For North American patients, video consultation slots are available in the late afternoon Paris time to suit East Coast and West Coast hours. Each procedure page details the technique, recovery, risks and indicative prices; the video consultation confirms the indication before you book your flight.

How do we organise your stay in Paris?

Our international coordination team anticipates the logistics so that you can focus on your procedure. These services are arranged on request and invoiced by the providers; they are not part of the medical quote.

What guarantees of safety, legal framework and confidentiality?

Procedures are performed in facilities licensed by the Regional Health Agency of the Paris region, in Paris and Neuilly-sur-Seine, with hospital anaesthetists and operating theatres that comply with current standards.

  • Cooling-off period: at least 15 days between the quote and the operation, without exception, including for patients from abroad.
  • Written information: an information sheet in line with the recommendations of the French Society of Plastic Surgeons (SOFCPRE), given and explained before the procedure.
  • Confidentiality: your health data and photographs are protected under the GDPR; no image is used without your written consent.
  • Discretion: reception and pathway designed to preserve your privacy, from booking to discharge.

How does follow-up work after you return to your country?

Follow-up does not stop when you leave France. The protocol is written and known to you before the operation:

  • Before your flight home: one or two check-ups in Paris, removal of stitches or dressings depending on the procedure, travel instructions.
  • Day 7 and day 30: video check-ups with the surgeon, based on photographs sent the day before.
  • Month 3, then month 6 to 12: assessment of the result, comparative photographs, answers to your questions.
  • At any time: a direct WhatsApp line to the team for any medical question.
  • Local coordination: with your consent, your operative report is sent to your family doctor, and we contact them directly if local care is needed.

What does your quote include?

As required by French law, you receive a detailed written quote before any decision. It separates four items: the surgeon’s fees, the anaesthetist’s fees, the facility costs (operating theatre, hospital stay) and the medical devices (implants, compression garments). Remote follow-up consultations are included. Travel, accommodation and concierge services are not.

The quote is the same for a French patient and for a patient from abroad. Cosmetic surgery is not covered by health insurance; payment terms (international bank transfer, deposit) are specified with the quote. See the indicative prices of our procedures.

Frequently asked questions from international patients

The first step is a secure video consultation with Dr Abbou or Dr Pessis. Before the appointment you send your medical file and photographs through an encrypted messaging service. The surgeon confirms the indication, proposes a technique and sends you a written summary with the quote.

Yes. Dr Ralph Abbou is an English- and Arabic-speaking plastic surgeon in Paris: he consults and operates in English, Arabic and French. Dr Rachel Pessis consults in English and French. Care is provided in French, English, Arabic, and Russian with an interpreter (medical interpreter); other languages on request.

Yes. Dr Abbou is in Dubai every month, at the partner clinic FAYY Health (One Central, Dubai World Trade Centre), where he consults patients from the Gulf. Surgical procedures then take place in Paris. Dates are shared on WhatsApp.

No. In France a physical consultation with the surgeon is mandatory before any cosmetic surgery, as well as an anaesthesia consultation. The video consultation confirms the indication, produces the quote and starts the cooling-off period; the in-person consultation takes place when you arrive in Paris.

Yes. Article L.6322-2 of the French Public Health Code requires a cooling-off period of at least 15 days between the quote and the operation. We organise your journey so that this period is respected: the quote is issued after the video consultation, well before your arrival.

Usually between 7 and 14 days depending on the procedure. This includes the in-person consultation, the anaesthesia consultation, the operation and the first check-ups before your flight home. For a rhinoplasty, plan about 8 to 10 days; for body contouring, 10 to 14 days. The exact duration is stated in your treatment plan.

The protocol is written before the operation: video check-ups at day 7, day 30 and month 3, then between month 6 and 12, based on photographs sent the day before. A direct WhatsApp line to the team stays open for any question. With your consent, we send the operative report to your family doctor.

You contact the direct line immediately. The surgeon assesses the situation by video and, if local care is needed, coordinates with your doctor or a colleague in your country. Serious complications are rare; the most frequent ones (small haematoma, delayed healing) are treated locally with our instructions.

The quote includes the surgeon’s and anaesthetist’s fees, the facility costs and the medical devices. Travel, accommodation, transfers and concierge services are at your expense; our team helps you budget them. Cosmetic surgery is not covered by health insurance.

No. The quote for plastic surgery in Paris is identical for a French patient and for a patient from abroad. It is issued after the video consultation, according to the procedure, its complexity and the length of the hospital stay. Payment terms, including international bank transfer, are specified with the quote.

It depends on your nationality. A short-stay visa or a medical visa may be required; citizens of the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, the Gulf countries and many others do not need one for a short stay. We are not a travel agency: please check with the French consulate in your country. On request, we provide a medical appointment letter to include in your application.

No. American and Canadian citizens can stay in France for up to 90 days without a visa, which covers the consultation, the surgery and the first follow-up visits. A passport valid for at least three months after your planned return is sufficient. Video consultations are scheduled to suit North American time zones.

Depending on the extent of the surgery, we recommend being accompanied by a relative for the first 48 hours. If this is not possible, a nurse at your hotel can be arranged. For minor procedures, travelling alone is perfectly possible.

On request, a private driver meets you at Paris-Charles de Gaulle or Orly and takes you to your accommodation or to the clinic. The same service covers your journeys between the hotel, the clinic and the practice during your stay. It is invoiced by the provider, separately from the medical quote.

Yes. After a review of your file and photographs, then a video consultation with the surgeon, you receive a detailed written quote. It is a binding document that specifies each cost item. It starts the 15-day legal cooling-off period, so you can plan your stay with peace of mind.
