Diastasis recti repair Paris
The treatment of diastasis is a cosmetic and reconstructive abdominal surgery.
Diastasis of the abdominal muscles (rectus abdominis) refers to an abnormal separation between the two rectus abdominis muscles.
A diastasis recti exists when the muscles of the medical line of the abdomen are separated. The gap between the muscles can vary from 1 cm to 10 cm or more.
If the gap between the muscles of the abdomen is very large, the internal organs can push forward and protrude through the abdominal wall and there is a risk of complications at the line of fragility.
In the majority of cases, abdominal diastasis manifests itself as a round, distended abdomen, sometimes even giving the impression of a pregnant belly that persists after the end of the pregnancy.
Sport can never make the diastasis disappear.

What is abdominal diastasis (diastasis recti) ?
Diastasis recti is a loosening of the abdomen and abdominal wall muscles (rectus abdominis) that is visible as a bulge in the abdomen during physical exercise or muscular effort.
The risk factors for diastasis of the rectus abdominis muscles are:
- Aging of the abdominal wall which becomes slack
- Pregnancy (post partum) and childbirth
- Important weight gain during pregnancy.
- “Big baby” weight over 3.5 kgs
- Occupational disease
Treatment of diastasis consists of repairing the muscle wall of the abdomen and improving the shape of the abdomen.
Treating abdominal diastasis can relieve stomach and back pain as well.
Who should be treated for diastasis?
- Aesthetic discomfort “pregnant belly”,
- Limitation in the practice of sports
- Abdominal symptoms (pain, constipation) and back pain
- Pelvic floor pain.
- Painful hernia
What is the procedure for treating diastasis recti?
Before the intervention
Two cosmetic surgery consultations with your surgeon in order to analyze your belly and define the surgical strategy adapted to your case.
The first step is to determine if it is a diastasis during the clinical examination in medical consultation and the search for an umbilical hernia.
If you have a diastasis, you will observe a bulge in your belly accompanied by a possible hernia of the white line or median umbilical hernia.
Course of treatment for diastasis
The procedure takes place in the clinic’s operating room. It lasts about two to three hours depending on the technique used. It requires general anesthesia.
The plastic surgeon repairs the median abdominal muscle line. The surgical technique consists of suturing the muscles of the abdominal wall and possibly placing an abdominal plate (prosthesis) to strengthen the rectus muscles.
It is possible to combine in the same operation an aesthetic improvement of the abdominal wall by liposuction, mini-abdominoplasty, or complete abdominoplasty and removal of the excess skin.
After the operation, there is a period of about 15 days of bruising and edema (swelling). Work can be resumed after 15 to 21 days.
You can benefit from a work stoppage if the operation is covered by social security.
You should not carry heavy loads or do sports for a month and avoid exertion. You must wear a compression girdle for 6 weeks. The final result will be assessed after one year.
Post-operative care
Most patients will find that their abdominal muscles are tight after surgery. This is completely normal.
You can resume walking the day after surgery, which will improve your circulation, help your muscles become more flexible and speed up your healing process.
The surgery causes some swelling. This is part of the recovery process. But swelling can also cause pain.
So it’s important to minimize your swelling. That’s why we have you wear an abdominal support garment for a few weeks after surgery.
While each patient heals at his or her own pace, you can expect to have pain and swelling for at least two weeks.
Patients should avoid physical exertion and bending or stooping for 3-4 weeks.
After this time, your body should have healed enough that you can resume most non-strenuous activities and light exercise.
As the abdominoplasty healing process progresses, patients will notice a difference in their appearance and the way their clothes fit.
Many patients find that a tummy tuck improves their self-esteem, making them look younger and more energetic
You will immediately notice an improvement in the contour of your abdomen. However, you can expect your abdomen to be swollen and bruised for the first two weeks. It can take anywhere from 3 to 6 months for your swelling to completely disappear and your final results to show.

FAQs
Questions & Answers
Does diastasis treatment hurt?
Each patient experiences pain differently. But, in general, tummy tuck recovery is quite tolerable for most patients. They are uncomfortable, yes, but any pain can be managed with medications that we prescribe.
Can you get a flat stomach without surgery?
If you are overweight and do not exercise regularly, you can certainly improve the appearance of your tummy with a healthy diet and exercise.
However, if your weight is normal but you have excess skin and/or distended abdominal muscles then a tummy tuck will certainly be the right solution.
How do I know if I have diastasis of the rectus abdominis?
What is an abdominal apron?
Abdominal apron refers to an excess of loose skin on the abdomen that covers the pubic area.
How to correct a Diastasis?
The treatment is surgical only, it consists in reconstructing the abdominal wall by suturing the muscles. Exercise and rehabilitation do not treat diastasis.
