Cosmetic surgeon specializing in buffalo hump treatment
The treatment of buffalo hump is a cosmetic neck surgery procedure.
The buffalo hump belongs to the family of lipodystrophies which are abnormal increases in fatty tissue in certain areas of the body and which are not related to diet. This is the case of the double chin for example.
The buffalo hump is not only unsightly, it can :
- Limit a person’s ability to extend the head and neck, forcing them to keep their head in a downwardly flexed position.
- Then alter your head carriage
- Lead to headaches: painful buffalo hump
- Then get used to chronic bad postures

Process of the operation
The treatment of this excess fat is based solely on a surgical procedure: liposuction.
Indeed, the only way to remove these localized fatty masses is to suck them out. Diet has no influence on this area.
The surgery takes place in an outpatient clinic under local anesthesia with sedation. General anesthesia is also possible. The treatment of buffalo hump takes place in the clinic.
Recovery time after buffalo hump liposuction is usually 2 to 3 days, depending on the size of the area treated. However, physical exertion should be avoided for 4 to 6 weeks.

In some cases, the deformity of the neck is not due to an excess of localized fat but to a deformation of a cervical vertebra or of the spine.
During your consultation and clinical examination, your surgeon will distinguish whether the lump in the neck is of fatty or bony origin. He or she may prescribe an imaging test if necessary. If it is not fatty, it is not possible to use cosmetic surgery to treat it by liposuction.
Osteopathic buffalo hump and physiotherapist?
Post-operative care can be prescribed to improve the result obtained by liposuction. Massage sessions will help to eliminate postoperative swelling and soften the operated tissues.
