The treatment of male and female baldness is a specialized area of facial plastic surgery that includes several types of procedures: hair transplantation, forehead reduction, scalp mesotherapy, female baldness treatment and beard transplantation.
Androgenic alopecia is the medical term for “young male pattern baldness”. This diffuse baldness is often attributed to a genetic predisposition to hereditary baldness:
Female pattern baldness: we now know that there is androgenetic hair loss in women that begins around the age of 40 and affects the top of the head. This female baldness requires special care because of the particular hair cycle in women.
This information sheet was written by Dr. Ralph ABBOU and Dr. PESSIS who are two cosmetic surgeons in Paris who regularly perform baldness treatments for men and women using surgical and non-surgical techniques.
Hair transplants are the reference treatment for hair loss. Results are stable after 6 to 12 months
Mesotherapy of the scalp consists of superficial injections under the skin of the scalp to stimulate hair growth and slow down hair loss.
Forehead reduction or lowering of the hairline consists of reducing the height of the forehead by removing a strip of skin from the forehead and lowering the hairline.
The beard transplant allows to increase the density of the beard and the moustache in men
Hair loss is very common in women and requires specific techniques: mesotherapy and hair transplantation.
Tonsure reduction consists in removing a part of the bald area by playing on the elasticity of the scalp.
The treatment of baldness in cosmetic surgery includes all hair techniques of cosmetic surgery that aim to restore the density of the scalp and / or stop excessive hair loss male and female:
Surgical procedure | Price |
---|---|
Forehead reduction | From 5500 € |
Scalp flap | From 4 000 € |
FUE hair transplant | From 4 000 € |
Surgical procedure | Price |

Beard transplant | From 4 000 € |
Mesotherapy of the scalp | From 350 € / session |
Depending on the stage of your baldness and your request, I will propose a surgical strategy based on the following techniques

The aftermath of the hair transplant is not painful.
You can resume your activities about a week after the hair transplant procedure.
Hair growth is a slow process, even in a person who has no hair loss. After the procedure, the first signs of growth of the implanted hair may take three to four months. About a year after the operation you will see the final result
The transplanted hair follicles are genetically very resistant, so they will continue to grow throughout your life.
It is possible to perform several hair transplant sessions with a rest period of 3 months between each session.
Mesotherapy of the scalp allows an immediate return to your activities, there is no convalescence.
These treatments are effective at an early stage. In more severe cases, surgical treatment of hair loss is often the solution.
The gold standard of treatment for early baldness is scalp mesotherapy, which can slow down hair loss and stimulate hair growth.
Most male and female baldness can only be prevented through medical or surgical treatment, but there are ways to be gentler with your scalp that will help preserve your existing hair. “Baldness is a genetic condition, but it can be exacerbated by excessive stress, poor circulation, poor diet, pregnancy, drug use, illness, thyroid problems… Some of these are preventable and some are not, so following a healthy lifestyle and managing stress can only help your hair. Here are some other key ways to reduce hair loss:
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) for hair loss involves taking a small amount of your own blood, processing it in a centrifuge to isolate the platelets and injecting it into your scalp. The growth factors in the platelets are thought to increase blood flow to the hair follicles and lengthen the anagen (active) phase of hair growth. Research has shown that PRP is effective in treating both age-related hair loss and alopecia areata. Most patients require three to four treatments, one month apart, to see a benefit. We recommend follow-up sessions once or twice a year to maintain your results.
NeoGraft is an automated device approved for FUE hair transplant surgery. This portable device harvests individual hair follicles for implantation in bald areas. With NeoGraft, an FUE transplant can take four to six hours – possibly longer, divided into two sessions on different days if you have very severe baldness. You can expect to need two to three days of recovery time before returning to work.
The ARTAS system is a robotic version of the FUE hair transplant technique. The system selects groups of follicles with the largest number of hairs and harvests them in a way that preserves the appearance of the donor site. The follicles are then meticulously placed, robotically or manually, in thin or bald areas. “The advantage of the ARTAS system is that it is less stressful for the surgeon than manual follicular unit extraction techniques” The robot produces “more consistent results compared to individual surgeons using manual techniques with varying levels of skill.” However, ARTAS needs the supervision of an experienced hair surgeon in order to create good results. With any FUE procedure, new hair begins to grow back in about three months, and results continue to improve over the first year.
There is no miracle treatment for baldness. In cosmetic surgery, the symptoms can be treated by grafting hair on bald areas. The results of baldness treatments last for several years.
Mesotherapy of the scalp or capillary mesotherapy can slow down or stop hair loss.
We speak of baldness when hair loss is visible. Baldness generally begins in the area of the gulfs (forehead) and in the area of the tonsure.
